How to Stay Motivated When You Work from Home

Happy November everyone! I can't believe how fast October flew by. Let me be the first to say that November is not my most favourite month. The trees start to lose their colour, the days are shorter, and it can be hard to stay motivated with work and/or school. That said, I have some tips and tricks to find the sunshine during this dark month. Keep reading to learn how I stay motivated during tough seasons.

Tip #1 - Create a Routine

Creating a routine could be as simple as having three things that you do every morning to help you get into the mindset to embrace the day. For me, this includes making my bed as I like to work in a tidy space, having a cup of coffee for energy, and putting on a proper outfit that makes me feel confident. I find now especially, with schooling remotely, that it can be tempting to just stay in pyjamas all day (since technically I don't need to leave the house).

In addition to a morning routine, I also like to do three things at night that signify work is done and it's time to relax. My three things include having a shower, putting on comfy clothes, and reading a book. Work and school are important, but they shouldn't consume you. Figure out three things that you can do every morning and night and I promise you will be a lot more productive during the day and be able to relax and refresh at night.

Tip #2 - Make Your Workspace Inspiring

As mentioned above, I like to make my bed every morning, but I also try to have a tidy and organized space for work. For me, something as simple as cleanliness is inspiring because it calms my mind and allows me to think more clearly and creatively. The way I maintain a tidy space is by taking five to ten minutes at the end of each workday to clean my desk so that I can start fresh in the morning. I also like to add greenery and artwork to my space to inject a punch of colour. If you don't already, I definitely recommend finding something that brings you joy and adding it to your workspace. Such a simple act can really spark motivation, especially with many of us still working from home.

Feel free to send me a picture of your space!

Tip #3 - Self-Care is Key

I know what you're thinking, why would I relax when I have work to do, but the truth is, self-care can be as simple as taking a five-minute walk around the block, buying yourself a latte, or eating a square of dark chocolate when the mid-afternoon brain-drain makes an appearance. All these activities help you refocus and regain motivation and therefore, they can be just as productive as doing work.

Self-care can look different for everyone, but I think the main point is to carve out time in your schedule that's just for you so that when you are in work mode, you can be your most energized and creative self. I know personally that when I'm not getting enough sleep or fresh air, I'm not able to show up as my best self.

I hope you found these three tips helpful. Do you have motivation tips to share? Send me an email or direct message me on Instagram. Wishing you all a productive and stress-free November. Until next time!
